Admissions

Admissions into Polytechnics

The Department of Technical Education, Andhra Pradesh, conducts admissions into various Diploma-level Engineering and Non-Engineering programmes for candidates who have passed the SSC (10th Class) or its equivalent examination and qualified in the Andhra Pradesh Polytechnic Common Entrance Test (AP POLYCET). To meet the growing demand for skilled technical professionals, the Government has expanded opportunities by establishing new Government Polytechnics and introducing second-shift diploma courses in selected institutions.

Admissions are carried out through a transparent and merit-based Web Counselling process. Introduced from the academic year 2009–10, the online counselling system enables candidates to complete the admission process conveniently from their homes or designated Help Line Centres without the need for repeated visits to counselling centres.

Stages of Web Counselling

1. Issue of Notification

The Director of Technical Education (DTE) releases the admission notification every year through leading newspapers and the official AP POLYCET website. The notification includes the counselling schedule, certificate verification dates, option entry dates, and the list of Help Line Centres. Candidates must attend certificate verification as per the notified schedule.

2. Certificate Verification

Candidates are required to produce the following original certificates:

  • AP POLYCET Hall Ticket
  • AP POLYCET Rank Card
  • SSC or Equivalent Marks Memo
  • Study/Bonafide Certificates (Class IV to X)
  • Aadhaar Card
  • Caste Certificate (SC/ST/BC/Minorities), if applicable
  • Income Certificate (for Fee Reimbursement), if applicable
  • PH/NCC/CAP/Sports Certificates, if applicable
  • EWS Certificate, if applicable
  • Local Status Certificate, if applicable
  • Transfer Certificate (TC)

After successful verification, candidates receive a Certificate Verification Receipt from the Help Line Centre.

3. Exercising Web Options

After certificate verification, candidates can exercise their web options by selecting their preferred Polytechnic institutions and Diploma programmes through the official AP POLYCET counselling portal. Candidates are advised to prepare their preferences in advance using the option form and previous year's admission statistics available on the portal. There is no restriction on the number of options that can be exercised.

4. Seat Allotment

Seats are allotted based on the candidate's AP POLYCET rank, reservation category, local area, and the options exercised during counselling. The seat allotment order can be downloaded from the counselling website, and the allotment details are also communicated through the registered mobile number.

5. Self Reporting & Reporting at Polytechnic

Candidates allotted a seat must complete both the following steps within the prescribed schedule:

  • Self-report online through the counselling portal.
  • Report physically at the allotted Polytechnic with the required documents and admission fee.

Both stages are mandatory. Failure to complete either self-reporting or physical reporting within the specified time will result in cancellation of the allotted seat.

For the latest admission notifications, counselling schedules, and detailed instructions, candidates are advised to visit the official AP POLYCET Counselling Portal.
